Be on time for tax season.
Books Club is a weekly virtual co-working session spearheaded by a Canadian tax accountant with over 20 years of experience. Together, with a small group of self-employed folks, we'll tackle our bookkeeping and have our records up-to-date all year long — so they're ready to hand off to your accountant and get your tax return filed on time come Tax Season.
The Club Nobody Wants to Join
Perpetually behind the 8-ball when it comes to your bookkeeping or even filing your taxes.
If that's how you'd describe yourself, believe me — you're not alone. I file multi-year tax returns for at least five people a year who are anywhere between 2 and 10 years behind!
The number one reason for this? Anxiety and overwhelm.
Once you feel like you've lost control of the amount of work needed to do to get yourself caught up, anxiety kicks in and I have firsthand experience of how paralyzing that can be. But ignoring it just compounds the issue, and the stress of falling behind increases exponentially... to the point where CRA has started sending you "love letters" in their signature brown envelopes.
It's a club nobody wants to join, yet it somehow has a huge membership.
But you don't have to keep renewing. You just need to get caught up.
What's Books Club?
We meet via Zoom weekly to "co-work" virtually on our bookkeeping.
The first ~90 minutes or so we do some focused work together. The group is muted so you can work in silence or have whatever background noise is most helpful to keep you motivated through what is hands-down very mind-numbing work. 😉
For the final ~30 minutes, those who want to keep working can do so, and the rest of us will go into a breakout room for some Q&A. I'll take questions live or you can submit them anonymously to me via the Members' Area.
Recordings of the Q&A sessions will also be uploaded to the Members' Area, along with any resources I have that are useful for the group.

Books Club Sessions Through June 18, 2024
Books Club is 'Pay What You Want'.
I offer Books Club because I know the power and value of both virtual co-working and of showing up regularly and consistently to overcome something as daunting as sorting through months and months worth of paper.
Books Club is free if you want it to be, but I also understand that, for some people, it's impossible to show up without having some skin in the game. And for others, it's against their nature to utilize another person's free labour.
So if you would prefer to compensate me for my time or expertise, I suggest an amount between $9 - $19 per month. You'll be able to make a contribution of any amount you're comfortable with when you register.
Oh, and it's a tax-deductible business expense, if that helps. 😉

About Your Host
Hi there! I'm Katy Takaoka, and if you're new around here, you probably know I'm a bean counter and that's about it.
While I am wildly passionate about making sure everyone pays their fair share of taxes (and not a single penny more, nor a single penny less), I am also an avid knitter, lover of puns and bad jokes, sharer of memes, and taker of terrible selfies.
I've been doing taxes since 2003, and specialize in working with self-employed folks who want to work collaboratively with an accountant throughout the year. Your accountant should make you money, not cost you money — and collaboration is how that happens!
